Last week we were fortunate to have some time without the kids so we popped along to see the guys at The High Tea Club in Cambridge.
We have been following each other on Twitter for a while but I just haven’t found time to indulge in some dim sum and boutique tea.
The High Tea Club is nestled in Cambridge’s independent district of Mill Road among some of the finest independent food stores and delis you could ever lay eyes on.
The whole atmosphere is so unique and unlike anywhere i have been before, down to the chill out music in the background, the fantastic wall of drawers, the leather sofa and the fabulous bar with tea and drinks stacked high enticing you to order a tea based cocktail.
Tea has been in the family’s blood for five generations now, and it shows. The tea menu is extensive and covers a range of different qualities of teas. At first it is a little intimidating but in the end I went for pot luck and wasn’t disappointed with some premium jasmine pearl tea.
We ordered Dim Sum for two people which was ample. We had six boxes of Dim Sum and some amazing Jasmine and Green tea.
The food not only tasted amazing it looked beautiful, the presentation was really authentic and the quantity was perfect for two. Our dim sum feast comprised of Chives Dim Sum, Spring Rolls, Pork Sia Mai, Glutenous Rice with Pork, Beef Balls and Turnip Dumplings.
Each set of Dim Sum was totally different from the next, all with really strong flavours that worked perfectly. My two favourites were the Chives Dim Sum and the Pork Sia Mai.
As we left we were offered a free sample each of their Jasmine Tea and i have to admit I am not a total convert to fresh leaf Jasmine tea – in fact I have read an interesting blog about tea infused gin – so there may be an opportunity to combine another one of my passions – Jasmine Tea and Gin!
I would thoroughly recommend a meal here, unfortunately we didn’t have a cocktail – this time at least but i am sure that next time we will indulge.
I wish the High Tea Club the best of luck with their business. They represent an amazing fusion between the Tea Shops in China and authentic, independent Cambridge.
